Bringing Soul to Every Bite: Our Philosophy on Food & Hospitality
"Food is love made visible, and hospitality is how we serve it—with soul, with care, and with open arms."
— Cora’s Custom Creations
At Cora’s Custom Creations, food is never just food—and hospitality is never just service.
For us, it’s personal.
It’s spiritual.
It’s soulful.
We believe that every bite we serve should carry more than flavor—it should carry feeling. It should taste like home, even when you're miles away from it. It should feel like someone thought of you while making it. Because they did. That’s our philosophy on food and hospitality: everything we create should feel like it came from the soul, not just the kitchen.
Where It All Began: A Kitchen Full of Love
Before there was a brand, a catering business, or a social media page, there was just a kitchen.

A warm, bustling kitchen filled with the smells of Sunday dinner, where aunties, cousins, and neighbors would show up uninvited but always welcome. A kitchen where flour dusted the counters like snow and cornbread cracked open with steam and stories. A kitchen where our founder—just a little girl then—watched her mother and grandmother cook with patience, pride, and a rhythm that needed no timer.
They cooked by feel.
They cooked by memory.
And most of all, they cooked with love.
That's the root of Cora’s Custom Creations. Those women didn’t have a culinary degree, but they had soul. And that’s worth more than any certificate. They taught us that food is not just nourishment—it’s communication. It’s how we say welcome, how we say I’m sorry, how we say I love you. It's how we remember those who came before us, and how we celebrate those who are with us now.
Our Philosophy: Food with Heart, Hospitality with Soul
We built our business around this idea: custom creations, made with care.
Everything we serve is made from scratch—no shortcuts, no substitutions. Whether it's a small drop-off for a family brunch or a lavish plated dinner for a wedding of 200, we approach it with the same mindset: how would we serve this if it were our own family?
Because in many ways, it is.
When you invite us into your event, your life, your milestone—you’re not just hiring a vendor. You’re inviting us into your story. And we don’t take that lightly.
That’s why hospitality, to us, isn’t just about showing up on time and being polite. It’s about anticipating your needs. About remembering your preferences. About folding the napkins just the way your grandmother liked. About making your mama’s signature sweet potato pie just the way she did—even if it means asking for her recipe (and permission) with reverence.
Soulful hospitality is going beyond service—it's offering comfort. Connection. Care.
The Magic Is in the Details
We often say, it’s not just about the food—it’s about how the food is presented, how it makes you feel, and how it brings people together. That’s why we pay attention to the little things.
We plate with intention, not just aesthetics.
We choose seasonings that complement the memory of a dish, not just the flavor profile.
We decorate tables with centerpieces that tell stories.
We hand-write thank you notes after weddings because every “I do” we witness matters to us.
Some may see that as “extra.” But to us, it’s necessary.
People don’t always remember what you said or did—but they’ll never forget how you made them feel. And that’s what we’re after: making people feel seen, loved, and celebrated.
Soul Food Is More Than a Menu—It’s a Mindset

Sure, we make shrimp and grits that’ll make you wanna slap somebody (gently, with love). Our fried chicken is crispier than your favorite playlist. And our gumbo? Baby, don’t get us started.
But soul food isn’t just about collard greens or cornbread. It’s not even about the recipes themselves. It’s about intention.
You can serve tacos, pasta, or sushi and still serve soul food—if you do it with care, pride, and purpose.
For us, it means:
Choosing ingredients that are fresh, local, and responsibly sourced.
Supporting other small, Black-owned, and women-led businesses whenever possible.
Honoring traditions while also innovating and evolving with love and respect.
Giving our all to every project, no matter how big or small.
Whether we’re catering a baby shower or a black-tie gala, the goal is the same: to make people feel full—not just in their stomachs, but in their hearts.
Hospitality That Remembers Your Name
Hospitality is often treated like a job description. Be polite. Smile. Clear the table. Move to the next.
But we treat hospitality like an art form.
When a client comes to us stressed and overwhelmed, we don’t just take their order—we listen. We help shape the vision. We offer solutions that they didn’t even know they needed.
When a bride tells us her daddy passed last year and won’t be walking her down the aisle, we make sure to include a memory table. When a groom’s family is flying in from overseas, we create a dish that reminds them of home. When a client asks for “something special” to honor their late grandmother, we make the recipe, print it on the menu, and toast to her name.
That’s hospitality with soul.
That’s Cora’s.
Real Clients, Real Love
Over the years, we’ve had the honor of being part of so many special moments—retirements, weddings, birthdays, reunions, homegoings. And in every single one, we’ve witnessed how food and thoughtful hospitality can bring people together in the most meaningful ways.
We’ve seen guests light up at the sight of a childhood favorite dish, recreated with care. We’ve watched tears fall over a dessert that tasted like someone long gone. We’ve helped clients turn simple spaces into unforgettable memories—and added those special touches that made people say, “You really saw me.”
That’s what stays with us.
Not the size of the event, or how fancy the décor was. But the moments. The connection. The way people feel when they know someone put love into the details just for them.
That’s why we do this.
Our Pledge: Local, Loving, Lasting
New Orleans is in our blood. The music, the food, the stories, the soul. It flows through every aspect of our business. We’re not just catering to the city—we’re part of it. So we’ve made a few promises to ourselves, and to our clients:
Stay Local. We work with local farmers, bakers, and artisans whenever possible. Because community means everything to us.
Stay Custom. We don’t do cookie-cutter. Every event is crafted to your story, your style, your soul.
Stay Soulful. We don’t just aim to be good—we aim to be meaningful. Every bite, every detail, every moment should reflect care.
What Soul Means to Us

If we had to sum it all up in one word, it would be this: soul.
Soul is when you call your clients by name—not by invoice.
Soul is when the macaroni and cheese has a crunch on top, a gooey center, and a story behind it.
Soul is when you stay 30 minutes later to help clean because the bride’s mama looked tired.
Soul is when the food is seasoned with love and plated with pride.
Soul is remembering that every person, every plate, every project matters.
Come Eat With Us. Stay a While.
So if you’ve ever been to an event we’ve catered, or one we’ve planned—thank you. Thank you for trusting us with your milestones, your memories, your meals. If you haven’t yet—pull up a chair.
We’d love to welcome you in.
Because at Cora’s Custom Creations, food isn’t just fuel. It’s a feeling. And we believe everyone deserves to feel full.
